Finnerty’s Mills in County Galway, sits in a peaceful rural location with the mill situated on a working farm and the Cappagh River meandering by. Both the corn mill and its operational waterwheel have been restored according to the best conservation practices. The mill, which dates from the 1700s, is a recorded monument and an important part of local industrial heritage. It has been run by the same family for generations. The milling equipment, from the gears and cogs to the wheels, quern stones, mill furniture, and sack hoist are all in situ. The mill house and mill stores are adjacent to the mill and all buildings are stone built.The museum has many artifacts which may be of interest to millers, students, conservation archaeologists, historians, groups, and clubs, or people who want to experience the real Ireland. See how water power can be used for green energy. The mill is situated on the roadside, facilitating easy access and there is ample parking for cars and buses.Guided tours are available year round by prior arrangement.
